Today I finally convinced myself, that getting a new camera would be a wise investment. I spend the last couple weeks scanning the market for digital SLR’s. I have been looking at both Nikon, Sony and Canon, and the choice fell on the 6 month old newcomer from Canon: the EOS 500D.
Today I went to the store www.bingofoto.dk to pick-up the new toy. Of course I couldn’t just get a camera (although the box included almost everything you need to create your own pieces of art). Firstly I needed storage. The 500D has the ability to record HD video, so 512 MB wouldn’t suffice. I needed at least 16 GB which i purchased in the form of 2 x 8 GB SDHC from SanDisk’ Extreme III 30 MB/s edition.
The camera comes with a 18-55 mm IS kit which is good for up close. For longer range I ordered the Tamron 70-300 mm lens, and for both lenses UV-filters (from Hoya) and lens hoods. Metz (not the German fire-engine company) builds flash’ for Canon cameras (amongst others), so I decided to get the Metz 48 AF-1 which is at least as good as the Canon 430EX II. Finally I needed a bag to hold everything, and bought the Lowepro Nova 180AW in black.
At the time of writing the battery is in the charger, and hopefully it is ready when I come home from teaching a first-aid class in Kolding tonight.
